Happy Monday!

Those of you who know me, know that I am extremely passionate about health and wellness. It really started a couple of years ago when I watched a documentary on food and what we are putting into our bodies. I then began to research more about what we eat, what we clean with and what we are putting on our skin (our largest organ). I also made the mistake of googling “animal testing” in my quest for answers and what I found was completely disturbing. Side note: 80% of ingredients in personal care products that are tested on animals, are still not proven safe for humans. Also, did you know that the United States has not passed a major federal law to regulate the safety of ingredients used in personal care products since 1938. What!!???

That’s when I decided we needed to make some serious changes. These changes started with organic foods, clean eating, and buying products that are cruelty free. I then learned even more about the chemicals and toxins in the personal care products I had been using for years. They can actually cause infertility, cancer, and other issues. As someone who is going thru infertility, my findings were deeply concerning. This made me question all of my past choices and not only did I want to continue down my path of better skincare/beauty, I wanted to spread the word. You don’t know what you don’t know, ammiright?

This was about when I was introduced to Beautycounter and I just recently joined their mission as a consultant…Woo Hoo! I am sure a lot of you are probably wondering what Beautycounter is. Beautycounter is a makeup and skincare company devoted to getting safer products into the hands of everyone. They have their famous “Never List“, which is made up of 1,500 questionable and harmful ingredients. They continue to research and choose ingredients wisely; which makes this skincare and makeup healthy to use, while being like high end products without the price tag. As I started using the products, I fell in love with how great my skin felt. I saw positive changes within the first few weeks and felt better knowing I was making a healthy choice.

A few of my favorite products so far are the Nourishing Eye Cream and Nourishing Cleanser. Both are super hydrating. The cleanser is gentle enough as an eye makeup remover as well. One of the very first products I tried was the Lip Conditioner. As someone who lives through some harsh winters, this stuff is bonkers good. My lips stay so hydrated and soft. It’s seriously a game changer. Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen….and Beautycounter’s is by far the best. UVA and UVB protection with a non-greasy consistency and the smell is great, too. It is so important to use sunscreen on a regular basis for not only health, but for lasting beauty. Lastly, the balancing line, particularly the facial oil and charcoal mask, has improved the texture, smoothness and evenness of my skin. It’s gentle yet effective, impacting skin without all of the harsh ingredients. I also use it on a pimple here or there, and it clears it right up.

Health and wellness is very important, so much in fact, I am going to devote a lot more time to it on the blog moving forward. I still use and love other products, too, and will continue to tell you guys about them. Beautycounter, however, is a brand and a movement that I am truly behind. I hope you’ll check out the products and learn more. Here is my website and a short video. If you have any questions, please reach out to me directly at melanie@withlovemelanie.com. I’d love to talk more about why I joined!
