Dog Mom Truths

With Mother’s Day only a few days away, it’s got me thinking about Dakota. Over the last 7 years there are a lot (and I mean A LOT) of things I never thought I’d see myself do for a dog. Who else knows what I am talking about? There are certain truths that I myself can’t even believe. Some of these truths are too gross to share, so I will spare you and give you the warm and fuzzy stuff.

Mom Truth: It’s Dakota’s couch, not ours. I have to laugh (and cry?) telling this story. Last year we threw a 30th birthday party for a dear friend. Our place is not huge, #cityliving, but we endure the game of sardines because we love to entertain. We had about 30+ people in our home with a number of chairs and the couch up front. Dakota decides she is in fact going to take up the entire chaise lounge part of the couch for the majority of the party. People go to sit, and the place where 2-3 people could squish together and enjoy a seat, there is my dog enjoying her slumber. Even in the midst of this party. Did I think to move her? Of course. Did I move her? No. Ok, ok, eye roll me all you want. But she is my baby, and yes she is spoiled.

Other times too, she will look at Trent or me and pout until we move out of “her spot” on the couch. “her spot” is basically wherever she wants to lay at that moment.

Mom Truth: I talk to my dog. People probably think I am certifiable. I will literally talk to Dakota as we walk down the street. “Dakota, you want to go get breakfast?” She picks up the pace, wags her tail, and I know she in fact is ready to eat. And it doesn’t end here. Haha!

Mom Truth: I feed Dakota table scraps. I know, I know, I am not supposed to do this. Don’t worry. I have read about all of the poisonous foods for dogs (I actually leave the list for our dog sitter). It’s usually chicken, steak, veggies and sweet potatoes. See! This is all good stuff. HA! In reality, I am really picky about what Dakota eats and snacks on. I recently found Supreme Source® treats and food. This is available for dogs and kitties. Why I love it? It’s grain free, has no corn, no wheat, no soy and no artificial colors/flavors. Oh, and it’s made with a healthy blend of fruits and veggies and now also includes USDA organic seaweed, a nutrient-rich superfood that helps promote healthy digestion. It is made here in America and is family owned. Why Dakota loves it? Ummm, it’s yummy. Duh! Check it out at Supreme Source or at Chewy.com.

Mom Truth: Dakota is Pampered. What dog isn’t? Well, in honor of Mother’s Day, Supreme Source thought we pet parents should also be pampered. They are offering up a pampered pet mom spa package including a $500 spafinder.com gift card and lots of great grooming products for their pet. WHAT!!??? This is PAWSatively puuurrrfect. See what I did there? Ok, ok…how do you win? Just enter here.

Mom Truth: Dakota’s love is unconditional. Until I had a dog of my own, I really never understood the love that they have for you and you for them. It is quite extraordinary. It seems that no matter what is going on, Dakota is the one steadfast in my day (life). That tail is always wagging, those eyes are always longing for more pets and she is a snuggler through and through. I am so blessed to be a mama to my fur child, Dakota.

I know others feel that same way. So, here is an extra little something to celebrate you and your fur babies. A giveaway! Here are the deets:

Haha! I love it! We tried a seat belt for Dakota at one point, but it didn’t work out so well. (cue shoulder shrug)
